"Steve Martini ranks among the top authors of legal thrillers."
—Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

"You like Law & Order? Or even a John Grisham novel? Well, Steve Martini is one of the best of the best when it comes to crime thrillers."
—Asbury Park Press

The reasons why Steve Martini is one of the most popular thriller writers around are abundantly clear in Trader of Secrets: an ingenious plot, great characters, gripping storytelling that combines the legal expertise of John Lescroart, Brad Meltzer, and Scott Turow with the heart-pounding political intrigue of Vince Flynn and Brad Thor. Superstar crime novelist Linda Fairstein says, "Take it from a prosecutor—Steve Martini has created one of the most charismatic defense attorneys in thriller fiction," referring to Martini's fearless yet very human series protagonist, defense attorney Paul Madriani. In Trader of Secrets the crusading lawyer is on the trail of dangerous criminals who are trying to steal state-of-the-art weapons technology...with nothing less than the future of America at stake.

In this spy thriller, Paul Madriani, who usually dazzles in the courtroom as a highly skilled criminal attorney, is instead hot on the trail of a ruthless international killer who targeted him and his extended family in a previous Madriani offering. Add to the mix two missing NASA scientists and a doomsday scenario, and Madriani must save the world to save those closest to him. Dan Woren has a rich voice and fine acting skills. He uses tonal differences to make each character readily recognizable. Woren's voice is interesting, but even his skill and this highly charged plot cannot resurrect the drama of Madriani's previous legal intrigues and courtroom battles, which have so enthralled Martini's fans. Martini's so-so 12th thriller featuring California lawyer Paul Madriani (after The Rule of Nine) has the deadly assassin Muerte Liquida still seeking vengeance. Muerte had left Paul's friend and investigator, Herman Diggs, critically wounded and, after yet another violent attack, Paul, partner Harry Hinds, and girlfriend Joselyn Cole go on the offensive to find and eliminate Muerte . His trail, which leads from the U.S. to Thailand and Paris, thrusts Paul and his friends into a web of intrigue that includes defectors with stolen technology from NASA and a hidden terrorist base that could unleash devastating destruction on the world. Martini offers plenty of near misses and a few surprises as the trio gets some unexpected help from professionals and amateurs in a final deadly confrontation. Those who have followed the Muerte Liquida story arc over the past two books will be most satisfied.

In his 12th outing, defense attorney Paul Madriani pursues a vanished NASA scientist with a big secret: he knows about some stolen NASA technology that uses nature's forces to unleash power equaling many nuclear bombs. Martini's thrillers are all New York Times best sellers, so the one-day laydown on May 31 and the 250,000-copy first printing are no surprise. Be prepared to buy plenty.

Defense attorney Paul Madriani is no stranger to dangerous situations; most recently, he averted nuclear disaster in Rule of Nine (2010). Here a monstrous assassin named Liquida is on the loose, and Madriani learns that his own daughter is caught in the crosshairs. With his trusted law partner, Harry Hinds, and his companion, Joselyn Cole, at his side, Madriani stops at nothing to keep his daughter safe, all the while trying to find two NASA scientists who have gone missing. It seems the scientists know certain things about weapon technology that a few corrupt governments want to knowat any cost. From DC to California to Europe to Asia and the Mexican rain forestthe action is nonstop. But thats not all. The dialogue is snappy yet believable, and the relationships between Madriani and Hinds and between Madriani and Cole are deep and meaningful without being sentimental. Fans of globe-trotting legal thrillers will find Martinis suspenseful, high-stakes, high-octane adventure to be a page-turning must-read. HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: Martinis proven formula for best-seller success combines the appeal of the legal thriller (Martini is a former prosecutor) with the high-concept adventure of, say, Vince Flynn and James Rollins. That combination has worked before and will work again here.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2011, American Library Association.)
